Cascades Bar and Grill

Municipal/Sewage Treatment, Water Treatment, Canada

Cascades Bar and Grill is a small residential and commercial operation in a rural community of Ontario, Canada. The owner was incurring excessive daily charges to pump out his small 2000 gallon effluent tanks which sat on bedrock beside a local stream feeding into Lake Ontario. Simpson Environmental was asked to engineer a small wastewater treatment system that could be used to process on-site wastewater from residential apartment dwellers as well as black and grey water from the restaurant and bar complex. The Simpson solution included a combination of UF/RO membrane systems along with an advanced oxidation process (AOP) system which treated the liquid effluent prior to discharge into the local stream. The treatment exceeded tertiary levels for TSS, CBOD and TKN in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Raw CBOD and TSS stood at a level of 100 mg/l and 150 mg/l respectively and were reduced to less than 5 mg/l for CBOD and less than 2 mg/l for TSS. Haulage costs were significantly reduced with a payback of the system in less than 12 months.
