A major French apple producer was facing serious competition in their served European markets from a German producer who had eliminated residual pesticides from its shipped produce. Retail channel customers were now at risk given the move to a “pesticide-free” standard. Simpson worked with its European Channel Partner to design a bath system and ozonation level that would enable the grower to reduce residual pesticides from shipped product. The Advanced oxidation processes system (AOP) provided a residual level of ozone in the 180 m3 wash basin and maintained a design level of disinfection ongoing. The project was very successful in a different way. For the first time ever, during the year following the AOP installation there were no product returns from customers due to spoilage.
